    P+Q=1000

    Q+150=P

    Plug (Q+150) for P.

    (Q+150) + Q=1000

    2Q=850

    Divide both sides by 2.

    Q=425

    Now use 425 to find P.

    425+P=1000

    Subtract 425 from both sides.

    P=575
