What is the difference between a plane (in geometry) and a piece of paper?

    A plane in geometry is a flat surface of infinite size. It has infinite length and infinite width and no thickness at all.

    A piece of paper that is lying flat has a finite length and width a some thickness. A piece of paper lying flat is part of a plane.
