Julie owns a video store. Her monthly expenses, including rent, average $1,168. This year she made $34,416 in revenue. What is the difference between her average monthly revenue and her average monthly expenses?

    Since there are 12 months in a year, we can divide her yearly revenue over 12 to get 34416/12=2868 as her average monthly revenue. Since her expenses are 1168 and difference means subtraction, we subtract 1168 from 2868 (due to that revenue came first in the last sentence of the question) to get

    2868-1168=1700
