    To use inverse to solve the operation we shall proceed as follows:

    a+5=14

    using the additive inverse property we shall have:

    a+5 + (-5) = 14 + (-5)

    simplifying the above we get:

    a+5-5=14-5

    a+0=9

    thus

    a=9
