The total price of an article is $7.02, including tax. If the tax rate is 8%, what is the retail price of the article?

    (7.02-x) / x=8 percent or 0.008. multiply both sides by x and subtract tax*x. Subtract the total cost and divide both sides by - 1.008. The original cost is ~$6.96
