    1. - 5x - 7 + 1 = - 5x - 5

    -5x - 6 = - 5x + 5

    -5x - 6 + 6 = - 5x + 5 + 6

    -5x = - 5x + 11

    -5x + 5x = - 5x + 5x + 11

    0 does not equal 11 so there is not solution to number 1 or you can write 0 does not equal 11.

    2. 4x - 7 + 2x = 2 (3x-3) - 1

    6x - 7 = 6x - 6 - 1

    6x - 7 + 7 = 6x - 7 + 7

    (6x = 6x) / 6

    x = x; this is an identity which means x can be any real number and the value will still be equal.

    3. - 4x - 2 = - 2 (1 - 4x)

    -4x - 2 = - 2 + 8x

    -4x - 2 + 2 = - 2 + 2 + 8x

    (-4x = 8x) / - 4

    x = - 2x; there is no real answer
