Two functions are shown in the table below.

f (x) = - x2 + 4x + 12

g (x) = x + 8

Complete the table on your own paper, then select the value that is a solution to f (x) = g (x).

    f (x) = - x² + 4x + 12

    g (x) = x + 8

    f (1) = - (1) ² + 4 (1) + 12 = - 1 + 4 + 12 = - 1 + 16 = 15

    f (2) = - (2) ² + 4 (2) + 12 = - 4 + 8 + 12 = - 4 + 20 = 16

    f (3) = - (3) ² + 4 (3) + 12 = - 9 + 12 + 12 = - 9 + 24 = 15

    f (4) = - (4) ² + 4 (4) + 12 = - 16 + 16 + 12 = - 16 + 28 = 12

    f (5) = - (5) ² + 4 (5) + 12 = - 25 + 20 + 12 = - 25 + 32 = 7

    f (6) = - (6) ² + 4 (6) + 12 = - 36 + 24 + 12 = - 36 + 36 = 0

    g (1) = 1 + 8 = 9
