In a class there are 40 students. There are 10 more boys than girls in the class, Let x be the number of boys and y be the number of girls in the class. Write down the two equations relating x and y.

    X = boys

    y = girls

    x + y = 40 (in a class there are 40 students)

    x = y + 10 (t here are 10 more boys than girls in the class)
