When using the inspection method to rewrite the rational expression, what constant term must the numerator have for to be one of its factors? What number must you add to (and subtract from) the numerator's constant term to derive as a factor?

For the numerator to have as a factor, its constant term must be. To get this number, add and subtract from the numerator's constant term.

    If (x + 6) is a factor, then putting x = - 6 should make f (x) = 0:

    x² + 8 x + c

    ( - 6) ² + 8 * ( - 6) + c = 0

    36 - 48 + c = 0

    -12 + c = 0

    c = 12

    So the answer would be 12. I had this question.
