    Let the number of boys in the class equal x and the number of girls equal y.

    Therefore the number of students in the class can be written as x+y=60.

    We know the number of boys is six times as many as the girls so we can rewrite the expression for boys as 6y.

    We know sub the 6y into the equation as a replacement for x.

    6y+y=60

    7y=60

    y=8.57

    We then multiply the answer by 6 to find the number of boys

    6x8.57=51.42

    Then round the number of girls up to 9 and the number of boys down to 51.
