We are give that each friend took 2/3 pound of grapes from the bowl. Therefore, to know the total amount taken by the four friends, we will simply do cross multiplication as follows:

    1 friend ... > 2/3 pounds

    4 friends ... >? pounds

    Amount taken by the 4 friends = [4 * (2/3) ] / 1 = 8/3 pounds

The bowl originally had 8 pounds and 8/3 pounds were taken, therefore:

    remaining amount = 8 - 8/3 = 16/3 pounds
