Explain how you find a unit rate when given a rate.

    This can be illustrated with an example:-

    A car travels 100 miles in 2 hours

    rate = 100 miles per 2 hours

    unit rate = number of miles per ONE hour

    so the unit rate in this case = 100/2 = 50 miles per hour.

    Unit rate is the distance travelled in unit time. In this case the unit is an hour.
