Jim's lawn is rectangle that is 15 5/6 yards long and 10 2/5 yards wide. Jim buys sod in pieces that are 1 1/3 yards long and 1 1/3 yards wide. How many pieces of sod will Jim need to cover his lawn with sod

    Yard is a rectangle shape

    length=15 5/6 yd

    width = 10 2/5 yd

    Sod is 1 1/3 yd by 1 1/3 yd

    Area=l * w

    What we need to find:

    How many pieces of sod will Jim need to cover his lawn with sod?

    Find area of yard

    Area=15 5/6 * 10 2/5

    =95/6 * 52/5 changed to improper fraction, easier to multiply

    =4940/30 yd²

    Find area of sod

    Area=1 1/3 * 1 1/3

    =4/3 * 4/3

    =16/9 yd²

    Now we divide area of lawn by area of sod.

    Area of lawn/Area of sod

    4940/30 : 16/9

    4940/30 * 9/16=92 5/8

    You will need 93 pieces of sod. We rounded up since we cannot purchase a part of a sod but only a whole.
