    5x - y = 3

    You can solve simultaneously should you need to:

    y = 5 - 2x

    y = 5x - 3

    5 - 2x = 5x - 3

    7x = 8

    x = 7/8

    y = 5 - 2 (7/8)

    y = 5 - 7/4

    y = 13/4
