On the first play, the football team lost 6 yards. On the second play, the team lost 5 yards. What was their total change in yards?

    So they first lost 6 yards so the=at means - 6. then they lost five so then it would be - 5+-6 which equals - 11.

    -11 yards because 0-5 is - 5 and - 5-6 is - 11
