When you solve for the first expression, 4 (x+3) + 2x it is equal to 6x+12 which is the same as 6 (x+2). The work for it is below.

    4 (x+3) + 2x

    4x+12+2x (Add like terms)

    6x+12

    and

    6 (x+2)

    6x+12

So there for both expressions are equivalent to each other.
