For every person who actually has the flu there are 6 people who have the flu resulting in a cold. If a doctor sees 49 patients write and solve a proportion to determine how many of these you would expect to have a cold

    For every 1 person that has the flu, 6 have a cold. That totals 7 people who are ill.

    If the doctor sees 49 patients then 1 in 7 have the flu (7) and 6 in 7 have a cold (42)

    1 : 6 = > 7 : 42
