    A) 5x - 9y = - 17

    B) 5x + 3y = 19

    If we multiply equation A by - 1

    A) - 5x + 9y = 17 then add it to B)

    B) 5x + 3y = 19

    12y = 36

    y = 3

    we have eliminated the "x" term.
