Tides on Earth are caused by the combined effect of the Sun and the Moon. However, the Moon has a effect on tides than the Sun because the Moon is Earth. NextReset

    It's because the moon is closer to Earth. In physics, the equation for gravity relies heavily on the distance between the two objects. So even though the sun is far bigger, the moon has more of an effect.
