Cody is painting the front door of his house. The dimensions of the door are 80 inches by 36 inches by 2 inches. If he paints all of the surfaces, how much area will he paint?

    To determine how much area he will paint, you will find the areas of all six faces that are on his door.

    Each face is in the shape of a rectangle, so use this formula.

    The front and back, left and right side, top and bottom will be the same. This means you only need three different calculations.

    80 x 36 = 2880 in.²

    36 x 2 = 72 in.²

    80 x 2 = 160 in.²

    2880 in.² + 72 in.² + 160 in.² equals 3112 in.².

    3112 in.² X 2 = 6224 in.²

    The total area of the services he will paint is 6224 in.².
