    The answer is B. 8.99 because your doing algebra here. You would subtract 5.25 when writing the equation 2d + 5.25 = 23.23 from both the 5.25 and the 23.23. So you are left with 2d = 17.98 then divide 17.98 by 2 to find the cost of a dozen of bagels

    23.23 - 5.25 = 17.98

    d = 17.98 : 2

    d = 8.99

    The answer is B. $8.99
