    Three consecutive numbers ... a, a + 1, a + 2

    together their ages total 48 years

    a + (a + 1) + (a + 2) = 48 < = = ur equation

    3a + 3 = 48

    3a = 48 - 3

    3a = 45

    a = 45/3

    a = 15

    a + 1 = 15 + 1 = 16

    a + 2 = 15 + 2 = 17

    so their ages are : 15,16,17
