You and a friend find an apartment you both like. The rent is $940 a month and you must give a security deposit equal to one and a half montha rent. The first months rent and security deposit are due before you can move move into your new apartment. They will be divided equally. How much will you each pay before you can move in

    First we find the security deposit

    940*1.5 = 1410.

    Now add

    940+1410=2350.

    That is a lot of money! But now, you divide the sum in half to find how much you need to pay

    2350/2=1175
