The first thing you have to do is convert the fractions. They can have a common denominator of 6. To get a 6 denominator with 1/2, you have to multiply the top and bottom by 3. 1/2 = 3/6. To get a 6 denominator with 2/3, you have to multiply the top and bottom by 2. 2/3 = 4/6. Then you subtract the 4/6 - 3/6 and you get 1/6. That will be the fraction part of your final answer. Then you do 6 - 4 and the answer to that is 2. So you need 2 and 1/6 yards of rope.
