    Applying the Pythagorean Theorem:

    a² + b² = c², where a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse,

    4² + 6² = c²

    16 + 36 = c²

    50 = c²

    c = √50 = √ (2) (√25) = 5√2

    Length of hypotenuse is 5√2 inches
