    Small pitcher = x large pitcher = y

    2x+y=8

    y-x=2

    x=2 y=4

    2 (2) + 4 - - > 4+4=8

    4-2=2

    One small pitcher can hold 2 cups and one large pitcher can hold 4 cups.
