    Well, the distributive property is that by which the multiplication of a number by a sum will give us the same as the sum of each of the addends multiplied by that number.

    We have then that the expression used by Gary:

    n = X * 17

    Using the distributive property we have another way to rewrite the expression is:

    n = 17 * X

    Where,

    x: is the sum of all tickets sold.

    Answer:

    n = 17 * X
