With this question you will distribute and add. You want to do this from left to right.

    2*x = 2x

    2*-4 = - 8

Now the equation is (2x-8) + 7 (x+2). This is where you distribute again.

    7*x = 7x

    7*2 = 14

The equation is now (2x-8) + (7x+14) which can also be rewritten to be 2x - 8 + 7x + 14. Here you combine like terms through adding.

    2x + 7x = 9x

    14 - 8 = 6

Remember to always keep the sign of the number when adding. This means your answer would be 9x+6 or 6+9x.
