    The length of a rectangle is 5 more than the width (w). The Perimeter (P) is 42 inches.

    width = w

    length = w+5

    P=42 = 2w+2l

    1/2P = 21=w+l (plug in for "l")

    21 = w + w+5

    21 = 2w+5

    16 = 2w

    w = 8 inches

    length = w+5 = 8+5 = 13 inches

    Answer:

    This rectangle has a length of 13 inches and a width of 8 inches.
