Tony's calculator correctly shows 3.4 x 0.5=1.7. Explain why the number of decimal places in the product is not the same as the number of decimal places in the two factors.

    0
    3.4 ... this has 1 number in the decimal place

    0.5 ... this has 1 number in the decimal place

    so u have a total of 2 decimal places ...

    3.4 * 0.5 = 1.70 ... so there actually is 2 decimal places ... but 1.70 can be written as 1.7 ... that makes it appear to only have 1 decimal place
