A carpenter used boards of length 7 7/9 ft. and 7 7/27ft. in the construction of shelves. How many feet of board were used?

    15 and 1/27 feet of board were used (when simplified). 7 + 7 = 14. 7/9 can be turned into 21/27 when multiplied by 3. 21/27 + 7/27 = 28/27 = 1 and 1/27. 1 and 1/27 + 14 = 15 and 1/27 feet of wood.
