    The length would be w + 6

    Area = length • width

    616 = w (w + 6)

    616 = w^2 + 6w

    0 = w^2 + 6w - 616

    0 = (w + 28) (w - 22)

    w = - 28, 22

    Since width must be positive, the width has to be 22 inches
