The orange-and-purple-striped sweaters at a store were not selling, so the store put them on sale for half of the original price. The sweaters still did not sell, so the store reduced the price by an additional $10. The sweaters are now priced at $7.50. Write and solve an equation to find the original price of the sweaters. Explain each step of your solution.
