    The first thing we must do for this case is to define variables.

    We have then:

    x = british pound

    y = dollar bills

    We have the following system of equations:

    x + y = 17

    1.65x + y = 18.30

    Resolving we have:

    x = 2

    y = 15

    Answer:

    you have:

    american dollars = 15 items

    british pound coins = 2 items
