The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 5cm longer. the shorter leg is 1 cm shorter than the longer leg. find the side lengths of the triangle.

    X² + (x+1) ²=5²

    2x² + 2x + 1=25

    x²+x-12=0

    (x-3) (x+4) = 0

    x=3, or x=-4, which is impossible

    so x=3, x+1=4

    one leg is 3, the other leg is 4
