To answer this question you will multiply the probability of the first event happening by the probability of the second event happening. He has a one in three chance of taking the bus on the way to school, and a one in three chance of taking the train home. 1/3 x 1/3 = 1/9 chance of both of these occurring at the time he is indicating.
