A box contains a penny, a nickle, and a dime. Find the probability of choosing a dime first and then, without replacing the dime, choosing a penny.

    (number of possible successes) / (number of total possibilities)

    You start out with 3 different coins in the box.

    The probability of choosing the dime from them is (1 / 3).

    Now there are 2 different coins in the box.

    The probability of choosing the penny is (1 / 2).

    The probability of both successes is

    (1 / 3) x (1 / 2) = 1/6 = 16-2/3 percent.

    The answer is 1/6

    chosing dime first is 1/3, you don't replace the dime so the chance of chosing a penny second is 1/2, I multiply the chance of chosing a dime out of 3, and choosing a penny out of 2.

    1/3*1/2 is 1/6.
