    When rates are expressed as a quantity of 1, such as 2 feet per second or 5 miles per hour, they are called unit rates. To determine the rate, we just divide the distance traveled by the time it takes. Therefore, the rate of the plane would be

    rate = 256 / 30 (1/60) = 512 miles per hour
