    Create equivalent expressions in the equation that all have equal bases. 2^ (1 + 2x) = 2^5

    Since the bases are the same, then two expressions are only equal if the exponents are also equal.

    1+2x = 5

    2x=4

    x=2 Hence

    2^ (1+2 (2)) = 2^ (1+4)

    = 2^ (5)

    = 32

    2^1+2x = 2^5, 1 + 2x = 5, 2x = 4, x = 2
