To convert a mixed number into an improper fraction you need to multiply the denominator of the fraction with the whole number then add the numerator to it this will give you the numerator for the improper fraction / the original denominator

    for example

    5 1/2

    multiply 5*2 then + 1

    10+1

11/2 is the improper fraction to the Mix number 5 1/2

To convert a mixed number into a improper fraction, multiply the denominator to the whole number, and add that product to the numerator. What you got from adding is the new numerator, and your denominator is the same.
