    When the slopes are equal, then we have parallel lines (which is not the case)

    When the product of 2 slopes = - 1 (or one slope is the reciprocal of the other with different signs)

    m₁ = 3 & m₂ = - 1/3

    (3) x (-1/3) = - 3/3 = - 1, then the 2 lines are perpendicular
