The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 1 cm longer than the longer leg. the shorter leg is 17 cm shorter than the longer leg. find the length of the longer leg of the triangle.

    (L+1) whole square = L square + (L-17) whole square

    When you expand the above equation, you get

    L square-36L+288=0

    (L-24) (L-12) = 0

    L = 12 or 24
