If a number is divided by a negative number will the outcome be positive?

That would depend ...

-4 / - 2 = 2 ... 4 / 2 = 2 < = = if the signs are the same

but

4 / - 2 = - 2 ... - 4 / 2 = - 2 < = = if the signs are different

So basically, if the signs are the same, the result is positive and if the signs are different, the result is negative
