    Solving the expression by completing square method we shall have:

    x^2-4x+14=13

    this can be written:

    x^2-4x=13-14

    x^2-4x=-1

    but

    c = (b/2a) ^2

    c = (-4/2*1) ^2=4

    thus we shall have:

    x^2-4x+4=-1+4

    factoring the LHS we get:

    (x-2) (x-2) = 3

    (x-2) ^2=3

    getting the square root of both sides:

    x-2=+/-√3

    hence

    x=2+/-√3

    Thus the equivalent equation will be: x^2-4x+4=3
