The ratio of apples to oranges in a fruit basket are 3 to 5. if there are 40 apples and oranges altogether, how many apples must there be?

    Lets 3x apples

    and 5x oranges

    3x+5x=40 fruites

    8x=40

    x=5

    so we have 3x=3*5=15apples

    we have 5x=5*5=25 oranges

    Answer: 15 apples and 25 oranges
