    They are only asking for how many he sells so the ones he gives away don't mean anything.

    24-10=14

    Sells 14 roses a day

    36-12=24

    Sells 24 carnations a day

    X = number of roses and carnations sold in a week (7 days)

    X = 24 (7) + 14 (7)

    X = 168 + 98

    X = 266

    Dan sells a total of 266 roses and carnations a week.
