    Base: B=24-2x

    Height = H=36-2x

    Area of paper that can be painted: A=BH

    A = (24-2x) (36-2x)

    A=864-48x-72x+4x^2

    A=4x^2-120x+864

    Answer: The area of paper that can be painted is 4x^2-120x+864
