Why can't the product of two 2-digit numbers ever be two digits explain

    The factors involved naturally place a number in the hundreds space. Consider the smallest two, two digit product ...

    10*10=100. The rest of all possible two digit products will all be greater than 100.

    10*11=110, 10*12=120, 11*11=121 ... they only get larger all the way up to 99*99.
