During a windstorm, part of the top of a flagpole breaks off. The broken top portion touches the ground at an angle of [c]5° 1[e] feet from its base (Note: if [e]=6, then 1[e]=16, and if [c]=3, then[c]5°=35°).

How tall was the pole before the windstorm?

I may have misunderstood the givens, but I used 35degrees as the known angle on a right triangle and 16feet for a known side.

I used the Trigonometric ratio Tan as it's opp/adj.

Then i set it up as Tan (35degrees) = x/16feet.

Solve for x by multiplying both sides by 16.

Then use you calc to get x which = the poles height (feet). The pole was 11.2 ft before the windstorm?
