    The first step in isolating z would be multiplying both sides by 4 to cancel out the fraction

    after that you have

    4x = 2y - z

    subtract 2y

    4x - 2y = - z

    divide both sides by - 1 to completely isolate z

    -4x + 2y = z should be your answer
